More About The Foundation

Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation works to build awareness about Congenital Heart Defects (CHD), and raise funds to sponsor life-saving heart surgery for children from under-privileged families.

Our Vision

The Foundation believes in a future where every Indian child has access to affordable, high quality heart healthcare.

Many forms of heart birth defects are fatal without early repair. Unable to afford the high cost, many unfortunate families struggle with stress, pain, and helplessness. The Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation is determined to help them.

Thanks to the heart-warming, generous outpouring from a group of amazing folks, 106 children have received a new lease on life up to early 2013. In the years ahead, we hope to increase this further.

Our Identity

The Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation has its headquarters in Chennai, India. It was registered as a charitable trust on 27th August, 2003.

Donations to the Foundation are eligible for income tax exemption under Section 80G of the Indian Income Tax code.

Accountability

The Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation firmly endorses high standards of accountability and transparency in its functioning. High ethical standards are emphasized and any conflict of interest between Board members and the organization's principles are carefully avoided.

Financial Accountability

All activities of the Foundation are audited by a certified chartered accountant, and income/expenditure statements, balance sheets, receipts and tax records are submitted regularly to the relevant authorities.

Transparency

The Foundation's annual report is available on request and is typically finalized within 4 months of the end of the fiscal year. It includes an overview of the year's activities, expenditure including remuneration details of Board members, and a brief resume of future plans.

Achievements

The Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation has made significant progress towards the achievement of its aims and objectives during the short period of its existence.

Some highlights:

• Fully or partly sponsored heart surgery in 144 children (up to early 2018)
• Built a supportive donor base of over 1,150 generous fans
• Spread CHD Awareness to over 2.5 million website visitors

Governance

The Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation is run by a small team, which ensures that over 90% of all donations are actually used to help children with heart heart birth defects, with minimal waste on administrative expenses.

The Board of Trustees includes Dr.S.Sivasubramanian, a consultant paediatric cardiothoracic surgeon, as Chairman and one of the co-founders of the Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation. Mrs.C.Gowri, a mechanical engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, is the Secretary and co-founder.

Operations

Activities of the Dr.Mani Children Heart Foundation focus on 2 broad areas:

• Providing healthcare - by sponsoring heart operations for children
• Spreading awareness - by educating the public about heart birth defects

To maximize impact and efficiency, we regularly review progress and measure performance against clearly defined goals and plans. Optimization of expenditure is a high priority, and any incidental expenses, such as travel, are met out of the personal resources of trustees.
